ABSTRACT

In this paper, the impact of Broadband on a national economy has been successfully dealth with. Broadband would be a key driver of Nigerian economy if the multi-faced problems such as high costs of right of way, lack of infrastructure, long delays, bottle necks and corruption associated with the processing of permits; Lack of a common front by bodies representing the Federal, State, and Local Government leading to multiple taxation, regulatory bodies and policies; lack of essential infrastructure such as electricity, road and other ICT infrastructure confronting the telecoms operators are tackled tenaciously. In this paper, ways of overcoming above stated problems are highlighted, the socioeconomic effects of Broadband availability and increased speed as it affects the European countries and Nigeria in particular have been considered. The role of government and telecom players to enhance quality broadband delivery have been properly dealt with. If the recommendations in this research and the action plans contained in the Nigerian National Broadband Plan (2013), are strictly implemented, by 2020, Nigeria will be among the world- economic leaders.
