ABSTRACT

This work deployed relevant Toolboxes for developing Simulink model in the MATLAB
Software used for the simulation of the model. In this work, the basic types of digital modulation
techniques were analyzed. The work evaluated the bit error rate performance characteristics of a
digital modulation scheme using MATLAB Simulink model for frequency shift keying (FSK),
phase shift keying and Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) modulation techniques.
Among channels used in wireless communication, this work deployed Additive White Gaussian
Noise (AWGN) channel between sending end and receivers, but focused in the characterization
and the design of analog signal waveforms that carry digital information and compares their
performance on an AWGN channel. In comparing Figures 11, 13, 15 and 17 in M-ary
modulation, the work observed that if the value of M increases the performance of the system
will be collapsing, which shows that binary phase shift keying (BPSK) Modulation has better
performance than DBPSK, QPSK and 8-QAM, hence work deduce that the bit error rate of
binary phase shift keying (BPSK) is the most effective modulation scheme in a practical
communication system.
