ABSTRACT

The Finite Element Method is used for the analysis of the three-phase synchronous reluctance motors. The machine is modeled to start direct on-line from a sinusoidal voltage source. The machine winding is modeled with an ACB short-pitched, full-pitched and over-full pitched configuration of double layer arrangement. ANSYS Maxwell software is used for the analysis and implementation of the models. The machine parameters of speed, torque, phase currents, magnetic flux density and the magnetic vector potential are presented, while showing the transient at start-up and when loaded. Slightly varied performance are recorded for the various models, but a more stable performance characteristics is recorded for the short-pitched winding configuration.
