ABSTRACT

This research optimizes the process parameters for extracting oil from the kernels of Azadirachta indica A. Juss using a ternary solvent mixture composed of ethanol, n-hexane, and petroleum ether. Utilizing Soxhlet extraction, a maximum neem seed oil yield of 51.57% was obtained using 36.76v/v % Petroleum Ether, 26.4 v/v% Ethanol and 36.98v/v%, N-Hexane at 42.4 oC over an extraction period of 6 h. The physicochemical characterizations of the extracted oil revealed a specific gravity of 0.88 at 15 0C, kinematic viscosity of 29 mm2/s at 40 0C  , acid value of 1.70 mg KOH /g, iodine value of 76.6 g I₂/100 g, saponification value of 203.5 mg/KOH/g, and moisture content of 4.7%.
