This research work
classified the soils of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike(MOUAU)
using most prominent classification system, that is, Unified Soil  Classification Systems(USCS) and American
Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials(AASHTO).The
university and the immediate environ is divided into thirty-two(32) sample
collection point for the purpose of  the
study. Moisture Content, Atterberg Lmits and Sieve Analysis tests which are
prerequisite for soil classification were carried out on each of the
samples. After soil classification using aforementioned systems,it is noticed
that for AASHTO classification that the soils predominantly A-2-6 and A-2-7
soils which are good subgrade materials for highway
construction.Furthermore, for USCS, it is observed that the soils are
predominantly CL soils of Lean Clay type which is fairly good for those
construction activities.
