ABSTRACT

Accident simulation and reporting is a system that automatically sense an accident in real time and sends an SMS alert to Road Safety Corps, Police and other related rescue agencies. The aim is to reduce the current high rate of death resulting from accidents due to delay in evacuation of accident victims for quick medical attention. The system involves proposed accident detecting device which is to be installed in vehicles that read and interpret geographical coordinates of selected locations along Warri/Benin road in Delta State, Nigeria. The device inputs are vibration sensor that produces signals indicating severity of an accident and a GPS module that interprets the coordinates of the Locations. The system workability was simulated on MatLab 2014a environment for various levels of accidents using GSM communication link.  GSM Signal Strength of the locations were presented and the system was modelled to transmit accident signal using the highest Signal Strength. The simulated results show that the total average time of reporting an accident is 181ms. This time is ideal against the manual method of calling rescue agencies by sympathizer(s) that sometimes takes hours or not even having communication access to these bodies.
