ABSTRACT

This paper aimed at designing and implementing a system that automatically monitor and log power outages for the purpose of reliability studies of public power supply. The design was implemented both in hardware and software. The hardware components uses an Atmel AT89C52 microcontroller interfaced with a GSM communication module and a liquid display for displaying cumulative power outage time. The software program that computes the cumulative power outage time is written in C# programming language and burned into the microcontroller. The result on testing shows satisfactory operation of the designed power outage logging system as the accuracy level was 99.04% with reference to the manual power outage time recorded for two weeks.
