ABSTRACT
In this research work, the effect of bamboo reinforcement (BR) on the flexural strength of concrete was studied. A mix proportion of 1:2.6:4.1 with water cement ratio of 0.47 were used. The mass of bamboo reinforcement added to the mixture was 0g, 5g, 10g, 20g, 30g and 40g respectively. Concrete beams of 150mm x 150mm x 600mm were cast and cured for 3, 7, 28, 60 and 90days. At the end of each hydration period, the three concrete beams were crushed and their average flexural strength recorded. A total of 90 concrete beams were cast. The result of flexural strength of concrete with the addition of 5-40g of bamboo reinforcement ranges from 3.62-10.20N/mm2 as against 3.54-5.69N/mm2 for the control test (0g of bamboo reinforcement). The result of the slump test for 5-40g addition of bamboo reinforcement ranges from 8-30mm as against 36mm for the control test.
