ABSTRACT
This article presents the optimization of a
campus-wide, heterogeneous, real-time smart surveillance network aimed at
enhancing security and mitigating intrusions on a metropolitan like university
campus. Existing surveillance systems lacked adaptability and interoperability,
leading to security lapses such as theft and property damage. A comprehensive smart
system was designed following detailed security profiling, which identified
four high-risk zones with distinct challenges. A Python-based data
communication algorithm and a protocol suite were developed to ensure effective
monitoring and seamless interoperability among remote subsystems. The research
employed various methodologies, including object-oriented programming and
simulation using Cisco Packet Tracer, following the OSI model and utilizing
protocols like Transmission Control Protocol and File Transfer Protocol. The
results showed successful communication across all network nodes, demonstrating
a more adaptive and efficient surveillance system capable of real-time threat
detection and response. Based on this integrated system, a more adaptive surveillance
system is achieved.
