ABSTRACT
As the demand for mobile communication has been growing day by day, resources such as the number of channels assigned to a cell is gradually becoming insufficient to support the required number of users. This has been a major concern for both the user and network operators. It is required to offer a very high capacity within limited spectrum allocation. The allocated spectrum gradually becomes congested and eventually used up which will lead to increased call blocking probability, call delay or queuing probability. This paper proposes focus cell fission scheme to provide and improve the channel/interface capacity of a Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication network. A Cell Fission Simulator (CFS) was carried out using MATLAB to display, test and implement the simulation scenarios in the paper. The results obtained show that there are possibilities of enhancing network channels using CFS.
