ABSTRACT

This paper reviewed reserve engineering of the brain and its criticism. The brain reverse engineering (decompositional analysis) technique entails using reverse correlation to translate the microstates of brain measurements into functional states of information processing is reviewed. Key features of reverse engineering are discussed, which is argued to be at odds with the findings of complexity science. The indisputable complexity of brain and mind raise the issue of whether they can be understood by reverse engineering.
